Mortgage Match Up vs working with a local Colorado broker

September 19, 2026 · 6 min read · Tom Stafford

Fair-use comparison of a national UWM broker directory vs Tom Stafford, a Douglas County broker. Not affiliated with Mortgage Match Up or UWM.

If you searched Mortgage Match Up, “match my mortgage,” or something close and opened this tab, you are not lost — you are at a different company.

Mortgage Matchup (often searched as Mortgage Match Up) is a national broker-finder directory associated with United Wholesale Mortgage (UWM). It exists to introduce you to a broker in a network. It spends real money to be the name people remember.

Match Your Mortgage is this site. I am Tom Stafford, a mortgage loan originator (NMLS #262409) with Edge Home Finance, LLC (NMLS #891464). I have lived in and served Douglas County, Colorado as a mortgage broker since 2010, working from the Castle Pines / Castle Rock side of the county. I shop 50+ lenders on your file. I am not a directory, and I am not that brand.

We are not affiliated with Mortgage Match Up or UWM. I mention the name so you can choose on purpose — not so this page looks like their landing page. No logos of theirs, no fake “you’ve been matched” screens, no claim that I am their Colorado office.

What a directory is good at

A national finder is built for reach. You saw an ad. You want a broker. The site collects enough information to route you.

That can be a reasonable first click if you have no one in mind and you are comfortable being introduced to whoever is in the network.

It is still a handoff. You have not yet hired a named person you can Google, call, and hold responsible for the file.

What a local named broker is good at

When you work with me, the next step is not “wait to see who calls.” It is a conversation about credit (with your permission), income, the payment you can live with, and the house — including Douglas County extras like HOA dues and metro-district taxes that online max-approval numbers skip.

I have originated since 1998. Conventional, FHA, VA, jumbo, and refinance are everyday tools, not a single product shelf. More on why a broker is not a bank branch and the loan types I actually shop.

I cannot promise a rate, a lender, or an approval. I can tell you if I am licensed to help (AZ, CA, CO, FL, MI, WA) and whether the file looks like a fit.

Colorado is not a generic pin on a map

Castle Rock, Parker, Castle Pines, Highlands Ranch, and Lone Tree each change the paperwork a little — new construction vs. resale, Village vs. city, insurance along the Front Range. Start with the Douglas County mortgage hub or a city page if you want the local briefing first.

If you only wanted the national directory, use that company’s own site. If you wanted a human who still answers (303) 495-9722, email me or book a Calendly time.

FAQ

Is this article saying Mortgage Match Up is a scam?

No. It is a national broker-finder directory associated with UWM. Some people want that. This post is only so Colorado searchers can tell that directory apart from Match Your Mortgage, which is my own broker site.

Are you part of Mortgage Match Up?

No. Match Your Mortgage / Mortgages by Tom is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Mortgage Match Up or United Wholesale Mortgage. Their marks belong to their owners.

If I already started a directory form, can I still call you?

Yes. Starting a finder form elsewhere does not lock you into a loan. If you want to talk through a Douglas County (or other licensed-state) file with me, book a call or use (303) 495-9722.
